Friends of the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center and Patuxent Research Refuge, Inc.  is a designated Section 501(c) (3) public charity.    It is a membership organization whose mission is to financially support the research of the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center and          the environmental education, outreach, and recreation missions at the Patuxent Research Refuge.
                                                                  All contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Who Are the Friends of the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center and

Patuxent Research Refuge, Inc?

 

The Friends is a tax-exempt (501(c)3) membership organization made up of people who share interests in and concerns about wildlife, the outdoors, and education.


 

What are the goals of the Friends?

The primary goal of the Friends is to support the missions and programs of the Patuxent Research Refuge and the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center.

 

How do the Friends support the Refuge and Research Center?

 

The Friends raise funds for the educational programs, exhibits, and outreach opportunities undertaken by the Refuge and for research conducted by the Wildlife Research Center focusing on  endangered species, environmental contaminants, loss of habitat, migratory birds, and many other topics vital to the well being of wildlife throughout this country. accomplishments.

 

How do the Friends raise funds?

 

In addition to membership dues, the Friends operate the Wildlife Images  bookstore located in the lobby of the National Wildlife Visitor Center and the very popular Wildlife Conservation Interpretive Tram tour on the Refuge.  Fundraising events are held throughout the year, most notably, the annual Patuxent Wildlife Art Show and Sale in the Spring.  The Friends also seek and administer research grants from concerned foundations, organizations and individual donors.  All contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Does the Friends Organization pay fundraisers?

NO! The only salaries paid by the Friends are to bookstore personnel and to tram drivers.  The Friends is a volunteer organization.
